GHANA - West Africa
 

RING POWER recently completed a multi-million dollar contract with the Ministry of Energy in Ghana, to supply and install a 70 MW diesel power plant in Tema, which is situated approximately 20 miles east of Ghana's capital Accra. The contract represents one of the largest export orders ever received by RING POWER.

 

RING POWER had only 21 days to install 54 CAT power modules at two separate locations in Tema, with 50 MW dedicated to one power plant and another 20 MW at a site a few miles away. Our field engineers and technicians installed and commissioned the equipment on time.

Switchgear, integrated cooling systems, internal tanks and fuel transfer systems are installed in each 40' power module. RING POWER supplied and installed all LV cables, conduits, transformers, and additional fuel tanks (5000 gallon each) positioned next to each module.

The second site (20MW) was designed identical to the main 50MW plant.

Ghana struggles to provide sufficient and reliable energy for domestic consumption and industrial use. The vast majority of Ghana's generation capacity is hydroelectric. However, all existing hydro facilities are producing less electricity due to little rainfall and very low water levels. Time was of the essence and transportation by air was the only option.

RING POWER contacted a Russian airline specialized in heavy lift cargo. The only type of cargo aircraft in the world large enough to carry several 40' high cube containers is the Russian Antonov 124. This gigantic aircraft has a maximum take-off weight of 392,000kg (864,200 lb). We signed cargo contracts to fly a total of 19 times between Jacksonville International Airport and Accra in Ghana.

Flying all of the equipment, almost five million pounds, and doing it within such a short period of time has been a project of unparalleled magnitude. Not only for RING POWER, but also for the airline. Worldwide only 15 of these large cargo planes are in civil operation. At one point in time RING POWER had 40% of the worlds fleet in rotation to complete this logistics project.

The project was completed in record time. The 70 MW installation provides a significant amount of energy to the Ghana national electricity grid.

In today's energy market the challenges of purchasing, building and commissioning any kind of power plant have increased further with recent and rapid escalation of equipment shortage, long delivery times, unreliable used equipment sources, and an increase in risk for the buyer.

RING POWER is one of the very few companies in this market segment, especially for quality used equipment, that has the know-how and the experience to provide reliable and cost-effective solutions.

Mali - West Africa

The African country Mali, just a few hundred miles north of Ghana, had a similar problem with their hydro power plants. Low water levels caused an energy crisis.
 

RING POWER signed a contract with the national utility company to supply and install a 20 MW diesel power plant in Bamako, the capital of Mali. Switchgear, integrated cooling systems, internal tanks and fuel transfer systems are installed in each 40' power module. RING POWER supplied and installed all LV cables, transformers, and a central control system. Pipelines supply the diesel fuel from a large storage tank into each power modules internal tank. Step-up transformers were positioned next to each power module. The diesel power plant consisting of 10 CAT XQ2000 power modules was supplied and installed by RING POWER within a very short period of time. The power plant is operating "baseload" 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and represents a significant part of Mali's power generation portfolio.

Iraq

The new Government in Iraq urgently needed a 14 MW diesel power plant to be installed in Baghdad's Green Zone. RING POWER supplied a fast and practicable solution.

A 14 MW diesel power plant consisting of 7 large CAT 3516B each rated 2,500kVA. All units were low hour used top quality gensets, sold with worldwide applicable warranty.

UK Military in Iraq

The British Military urgently needed a 30 MW power plant for their base in Basra, Southern Iraq.

RING POWER delivered 18 CAT XQ2000 - 3516B power modules, including switchgear, special sand & dust filters. The equipment was top quality used with low hours, and RING POWER was able to ship only one week after the order was received.

Turkmenistan

A European Engineering Group specialized in Offshore Oil Rig's and FPSO's urgently needed a 6 MW Power Plant for a new FPSO to be operated in Turkmenistan.

RING POWER completely modified existing used, low hour, power generation equipment, obtained ABS certification in close cooperation with the customer, and shipped the equipment just 4 weeks after the order was received.

An Oil Company operating in Congo needed to refurbish existing Oil Rig's and an FSPO.

A German Oil Company operating in Kazakhstan needed to expand their existing Land Oil Rig's. One of the Objectives was to run the Power Plant in Bi-Fuel Configuration.
